 KEY FACTS AND FIGURES
There are doubts whether EUROPE will achieve the 2020 target
  • The EU is so far above the 2011/2012 interim target defined in the Renewable Energy Directive. This good result is not surprising given that the interim targets are not ambitious in the early years; however, the trajectory will become steeper closer to 2020.

  • Out of the eleven Member States analysed this year, Austria, Italy and Sweden are expected to meet their 2020 renewable energy targets. Belgium, Poland, Spain and the UK are not expected to meet their targets, and there are doubts concerning the four remaining Member States (Bulgaria, Germany, Greece and Portugal).
